2008: Year in Review

Okay, in every magazine, TV show, newspaper, there is some sort of 2008 year in review. I'm jumping on the bandwagon, however, I don't have that much to report. Here are my minor details of 2008 year in review. Please don't be jealous of my rock star lifestyle.

2008 was the year that....
1. I became a Vegan. Have you read the book "Skinny Bitch"? It's awesome. It will make you want to become a vegan... not b/c I love animals or anything stupid like that, but for the weight loss factor. All those skinny bitches on t.v... oh yeah, they're vegans. Being a Vegan is a one way stop to counting your own ribs in the mirror. (PS - I was only a Vegan for about 5 hours. It's too hard.)

2. I gained 30 lbs. Yeah, it was a slippery slope from the Vegan stage. Hopefully 2009 will be the year that I lose those 30 lbs and then the other 20 I wanted to lose before I gained the 30. Or maybe I'll win the lotto and get my stomach stapled in Mexico like Courtney Love! (PS - no tips about quitting drinking. I'd rather be fat and drunk than skinny and sober.)

3. I started the Book/Wine Club. I call it an achievement, some may not. The fact that most of us miss work the day after Book Club is a testament to our success. (or failure...hmmm)

4. I got my massage membership. A personal achievement? Maybe not.. however, I consider it a step towards financial freedom. I'm going to get at least one massage a month anyway, this way I'm saving money. (I can rationalize anything.. come shopping or to a bar with me... I'll work my magic on you!)

5. I finished painting the last room in my apartment. Yeah, it's small and YES I've lived here for a while but hell, I stay pretty busy at work. My apartment is also dangerously close to resembling a Cracker Barrel. Apparently, my decorating style is a slash between white trash and country. Got a tin sign? Love it!! I'll hang it on the wall! Got a tin star? Sweet, I'll add it to my collection! Picture of Elvis? Picture of Gone with the Wind? Already on my wall but I'll take more!

Happy New Year!!!!

New Jersey Devils

Rich and Colin went to go see the NJ Devils play the other night. They are both huge hockey fans. Since I'm from the south, I don't understand or even really like hockey. I can't keep up with that tiny puck. They both had alot of fun.

Happy Birthday Will

I almost forgot! Today is Will's 3rd Birthday! Hard to believe! The other day Shawn and Will called me so Will could sing to me his "Monkey Song." Sooo, I'm listening to the little guy thinking he's going to sing me some cute little kid song about monkeys.. but nope, he busts into "Brass Monkey, that funky monkey" by the BEASTIE BOYS! LOL!!!! You're going to have your hands full Shawn!

Happy Birthday Elisha!

Yesterday was my sister's Elisha's birthday! She is mother to my beautiful nieces, Gracie and Carley and my nephew, Gage. She works very hard raising the three kids and does a great job. Lish and I are only a year apart and I wished we lived closer.

Love you Elisha! Happy Birthday!

Over the River and through the Woods to Beth's House we go!

Rich (I cut his hair, that is why it looks crazy), Nitschke, Brian and Jimmy
Everyone eating desert and drinking!

We went to Beth's house on Christmas Day. We had a HUGE feast! It was alot of fun and they did a great job on the food. Mom and Joe drove up from Philly, Brian's brother, Jimmy and his wife Cherise, drove in from the Bronx. Nitschke came over after spending time at Grandma's. We had a great time.

Christmas Eve

Rich and his 2 children, Katie and Colin.
Jackie and Lucia
Leah, Brian and Beth
Lucia, Katie and Rich's Mom laughing at something (perhaps Keith?)
Katie is home from school! Katie and Colin
Rich and Colin

We had Christmas Eve at our house. We had a full house! Steve (Rich's brother) and Lucia (his wife.) Rich's parents and Nana, Katie, Colin, Jackie (Rich's sister) and Keith (her husband), Beth, Leah and Brian. We decided to keep it simple and just do appetizers. It was a pretty good idea b/c Keith, Jackie, Steve and Rich kept having to go out on fire calls. We opened presents and good time was had by all!

Dirty Christmas Secret

I have yet another admission to make.. I can't hide it anymore! Also, it's better to own up to this now, rather than be caught in the act. I absolutely positively LOVE LOVE Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" song.

YESSSS, I know.. it's HORRIBLE! I when I say love it, I mean like turn up the radio and dance and sing to it like a back up dancer. This is such a contradiction for me. As a rule, I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a plastic spork than listen to Christmas music. (I had Taco Bell for lunch today. I spent 12 minutes beholding the beauty of the SPORK, as opposed to working. My procrastination knows no bounds!) Also, I think Mariah is a skank. (That is not my personal opinion, but rather a scientific fact.) This a.m. I was jamming to it when I pulled into the parking lot of work.. then I had to turn it down reeeaaaaaal low so no one would catch me listening to it. I'm tired of the shame! I love that crappy song.

Sooooo, I've been a bit behind on my blog. I had a trade show in the city this past week. It was very glamorous.. don't be jealous... "NY Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy." Sexy right? The cool thing was I was at the Marriott, which is right in Times Square. We have a crazy schedule for January, unfortunately, we're not going to be able to take much time off.

Anyway, for this season, I hope everyone takes some time to relax. I know I'm going to try too. It's so easy to go overboard and stress yourself out. I still don't even have a Christmas tree yet, I was freakin' before but screw it. I'll make a Christmas table using a GES 4' table and some red skirting. (I think we've already established that we're white trash) We're having family over on Christmas Eve. Instead of doing our elaborate meal, we're just going to do appetizers. Super easy and super fun. It's hard to lose sight of the reason we are celebrating Christmas. Don't worry, I'm not going to preach, but whatever your religion, enjoy your family and celebrate your blessings!

This Ain't WWF, Little Dude!

Creeps up on you like a SPIDER MONKEY!!!

Will Riley trying to be sneaky and get in the picture!

This past weekend Aunt Lea and Grandma Betty went up to Lake Lanier to babysit Will Ryley and J-Bob so Shawn and Mary could attend a work Christmas par-TAAAY! Anyway, I think Will knows he is in for a good time when Gma and Aunt Lea come up. He probably gets coke out of the can (thank you Aunt Lea.. because of you giving me coca cola as a child, I now cannot wake up unless I have a can of diet coke), they'll watch movies, and gma will make them delicious peanut butter sandwiches with no crusts. (Nobody makes a sandwich better than Gma.. actually, nobody makes ANYTHING better than Gma!) So, Gma was on the floor changing J-Bob when Will climbed on the table and jumped on Gma's back and tried to tackle her WWF style! Instead of Aunt Lea coming to Gma's rescue, she just proceeds to snap pictures. (Keep in mind this child is hyped on all the candy and crap Aunt Lea's been sneaking to him!)
On a side note, doesn't Mary look great! That girl is always working out! She looks awesome and has had 3 kids.

Closet of Broken Dreams

At our house we have this giant storage closet at the base of the stairs. It has been named the "Closet of Broken Dreams." Rich and I are both older.. we've been around the proverbial block a few times.. we both have "crap" .. ohhh excuse me.. loving memoirs.. from previous relationships that we hate to throw away.. mainly b/c family is in the picture. So problem solved = We each have a box in the closet with stupid crap from previous relationships (or in Rich's case.. previous marriages.. that's right, it's a plural) Sooo, that's how we got our lovely nickname for the closet.

Sooo, some people think it's funny.. some people laugh (uncomfortably) because we are.. and some people tell us we should have our own reality show.. which I don't think is necessarily a compliment because everyone on those shows are train wrecks! Oh well!

I've got to dive into the Closet of Broken Dreams tonight to dig out all the Christmas decorations. My Christmas decor is "shabby chic".. although I think the emphasis is more on the shabby than the chic. I can never decorate well at all. Whatever.. it all looks pretty when the lights are twinkly and you've had a bottle of champagne.

Friday Favorites

Okay... since certain people that I've asked .. OVER AND OVER again.. haven't provided me with their 25 things, I've got to improvise. I'm doing this week's Friday Favorites on the one and the only.... THE KING!!!!!!

Most of you know who THE KING is .. but for all you folks that live under a rock.. I'm talking ELVIS!!!! There is no one, and I do mean NO ONE, that can sing Love Songs, Christmas Carols, Gospel and Dixie better than Elvis. (Can I get an AMMMEN!??) If you care to disagree with me, why I swear I'll fight you. And when I'm done kicking your ass, Grandma Betty will be right behind me! (Nobody puts our Elvis Presley in a corner!)

Our entire family has a love of Elvis.. I think we can thank Grandma Betty for that. Grandma luuuuvs Elvis. I remember being little and Beth, Shawn, myself and Grandma dancing around the house to Elvis. Elvis is a part of all of our lives. I guess I never realized how much we knew about Elvis, until we moved up North and were completely STUNNED at the lack of knowledge these yankees had on the King. One night at a Fire Department Christmas party I won the big gift b/c I knew Elvis's middle name (Aaron) and that he was a twin (his brother died at birth.) I mean DUUUUHHHHHHH, that's common knowledge.

Sooo, here's to you Elvis Presley! I know you are somewhere up in heaven singing in Jesus's choir. I hope you are wearing your leather outfit.. that one is my favorite!!! (I wasn't a huge fan of the polyester be-dangled stuff with the cape.)

Happy B'day Allie!

Today is Cousin Allie's Birthday!!! Allie is an un-determined age. (Allie, you are young.. start lying about your age now. Trust me on this! I wish I had someone tell me this when I was your age! Never EVER EVER tell anyone your real age!) Allie is super busy going to school and working at Ippolito's. (For all you out there that didn't know.. my entire family has worked at Ipp's. Beth started there, then brought me and Jenny. Allie, Sarah and Lauren were then the "next generation" to work there. Once they get out of school.. maybe they'll come work at GES with us! YAH!)

Happy Birthday Allie! We miss you so much!!!!!!

What the Hell!

Okay.. I keep finding gray hair. What the hell is up with that? Yeah, I know I have a stress ful job.. it's not brain surgery stressful... or "I'm saving lives" stressful.. I mean, I'm a glorified carnie for crying out loud, gray hair shouldn't be sprouting out like spring flowers. It's out of hand. I also thought red heads didn't get gray hair, I just thought our gray hair was "strawberry blond" strands. Someone fed me a pile of shit on that one! I have gray hideous wiry strands. I've got to go to the salon and fix this. I thought about rewarding myself by getting my hair dyed when I lost 15 lbs.. but then I figured that wouldn't be a good idea either. I'll just be fat WITH GRAY HAIR. Double loser whammy. Guys suck... I mean really... they get gray hair and it's "sexy" and "salt and pepper"... I spend a damn fortune on hair products, make up, moisturizers, etc. They don't have to do anything except remember to wash their crevices (with soap), brush their teeth (they usually only do it once a day.. without crest white strips) and comb their easy to manage hair. Life isn't FAIR!!!!!!
